Product Design: 3D Design
Product Design: 3D Design
Do you enjoy working independently? Are you creative and innovative? Do you enjoy the process of designing? The 3D Product Design course builds on the skills and knowledge that you have developed at GCSE and will enable you to become more independent, decisive, creative and communicative. Modules are taught which combine a range of design and manufacturing skills including ICT and commercial practices, reinforced by a deeper and broader knowledge of materials. The modules also cover the history of design and consider how design, technology and society interact. These are enhanced by visits and speakers, which place design in context and give the student a view of his or her activities in the wider world. Specific areas of focus include:
- Materials and components – types, properties, applications
- Portfolio design
- Design skills
- Product study
- Design influences and the work of designers
You need to be keen to develop a range of communication skills and to have an interest in the impact that design can have on the world and the society in which we live. Previous students of product design have gone on to study courses such as architecture, mechanical and aeronautical engineering, automotive design, graphics, product design, art & design and other creative and technical vocations. You can do the same.
